The Itsy Bitsy Spider

The Itsy Bitsy spider went up the water spout. It clung carefully to the sides of the drain pipe as it made its way up the slightly damp surface, and pondered the definition of the words “itsy” and “bitsy.” “Bitsy” seemed obvious enough. “Bit” was a small piece of something, so “bitsy” would presumably be the adjectival form of the noun. But “itsy”? It hardly seemed like a word at all. It almost sounded as though someone had simply tried to make up a word that rhymed with “bitsy” on the spot, perhaps while her boss was subtly suggesting that people who didn’t get their work done on time would be fired.
